People will always be hungry for food and the hospitality industry is constantly searching desperately for more chefs with hands on experience or culinary training.
Being a chef brings a huge amount of responsibility but more importantly, respect. Pretty much the only person a chef can’t kick out of the kitchen is the owner. The chef is the artist of the hospitality venue. Often, the owners are simply considered to be the backers of the chef. As a chef, you have the opportunity for unlimited creativity, joy, sometimes fame and endless career growth. And even better yet, you have the opportunity to eat everything.
Chefs can work up the ladder in hospitality by gaining experience across a variety of different roles/venues. Chefs normally begin their careers as prep cooks, line chefs, sous chefs, executive chefs or corporate chefs. Some can become teachers or lecturers, whilst others may choose a variety of other paths.
Chef skills are quality attributes to have. Around the world, whether it be; hotels, boats, high end restaurants, pubs, café’s, local RSL, fast food, country clubs, casino’s, cafeteria’s, bar’s and the likes, all need chefs in the kitchen. These skills are readily transferable, meaning that a career in a kitchen, all around the world can very easily be the key to discovering new countries, new culture, new people and new friends. It can be a hugely rewarding and fulfilling career.
